A Morning with the BMW M4 Competition: Emotion and Soul in Every Kilometer
The morning started as usual. I was leisurely having breakfast, enjoying the peace and the strong aroma of coffee. But all this morning calm was disrupted by the sound of an approaching car. A brand-new BMW M4 Competition appeared on the driveway, sparkling in the light. It was as if it was shouting, “Look at me, I’m here to prove that true power and the soul of a car haven’t died in the age of electronics and green technologies.”
When you first pick up the spec sheet, your eyes catch the numbers. Weight – 1725 kg, and you already want to frown, a bit heavy. An automatic transmission with a torque converter instead of the familiar DCT and the lack of a manual gearbox – it seems the manufacturers forgot about those real feelings that mechanics give you.
But then the power of 503 hp and the torque of 650 Nm make you smile, a lot of potential for tuning is hidden in the S58 engine. However, I’ve long understood that judging a car by its specifications is like judging a book by its cover. What matters are the feelings, the adrenaline rush you feel when you press the gas pedal, hear the roar of the engine and feel every cell of your soul.
And so I get behind the wheel. The first few minutes – and all my fears dissipate like morning fog. This M4 Competition, the last of the gasoline-powered BMWs, worthily wears its M badge. It says, “I’m still here, and I’m ready to give you those emotions that you’ll remember in your old age.”
Under the hood is a 3-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. This engine is the heart of the car, beating with incredible power and passion. Closed construction for extra strength, forged crankshaft for lightness, 3D-printed center section of the cylinder head – all this turns the car into a real technical marvel. Yes, we all know that the future is electric, but for now, this engine makes us remember what real driving sensations are like.
And even when we look at the M4 CSL, this limited edition that marks the 50th anniversary of the M division, we see the future in the present. The CSL is the pinnacle of engineering. It’s a two-seater car with carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, titanium exhaust system and numerous other modifications that make it lighter, stiffer and faster. It reminds us of those days when cars were real cars, not just a means of transportation.
You accelerate on the track, and there it is – real magic. The turbines start their work, and the engine roars like a wild beast breaking free. The eight-speed gearbox works so smoothly and quickly that it feels like it’s anticipating your desires. And then you’re already racing down the road, feeling the blood rushing through your veins and your heart beating in time with the roaring engine.
The M4 Competition is not just a car, it’s the embodiment of every car enthusiast’s dream. It gives you those emotions and sensations that you remember for a lifetime. And when we’re sitting by the fireplace in our old age, we’ll remember those days when gasoline monsters were still tearing up the roads, giving us unforgettable moments.
This is the last of the gasoline-powered BMW M, which makes us think about the future, which is not far off, but while we have these cars, we must enjoy every kilometer, every turn and every moment spent behind the wheel. Because it is these moments that make our lives bright and unforgettable.
So, if you’re looking for a car that will give you not only speed, but also a soul, a car that will delight you with every surge and every roar of the engine, the BMW M4 Competition is just what you need. Because the emotions that this car gives you will stay with you forever.
